Program Description

This program is open to ALL Majors.

Spend one month in Oaxaca, Mexico, studying Spanish language, literature, and culture through this program led by OCU Spanish Professor Dr. Mark Griffin. Students from all majors may enroll and choose to either study 6 hours of Spanish language taught by professors from the University of Oaxaca (Universidad Autónoma "Benito Juárez" de Oaxaca) or study Mexican Literature in English Translation taught by Dr. Griffin plus three hours of Spanish through the University of Oaxaca. All participants will be immersed in the local culture by living with one or two other students at the homes of local host families, who provide three meals each day. Excursions include a weekend at the beach, touring the Monte Alban ancient ruins, and exploring a traditional artisan village. Cultural experiences include dancing and cooking lessons, among others.
